Community Building Teams
Caring Team
The Caring Team works with our Minister to provide short-term support and assistance to UUCW members and friends experiencing illness, injury, or crisis. They arrange for transportation to church, doctor’s visits, and other appointments; visit those in the hospital, rehabilitation facilities, and hospice; and deliver meals and sometimes do shopping for those recovering at home. They also host a reception following Memorial or Celebration of Life services.
- Meetings: As-needed, at least once per quarter. Most communication is conducted through email, phone and text.
- Time Commitment: Currently, core team members spend about 5+ hours per month discerning needs and organizing a larger number of volunteers to provide needed services.

Communications Support Team
The Communications Support Team works with our church leaders and staff to ensure internal and external communications provide relevant, engaging, and up to date information. The scope of communications includes the weekly newsletter, the website, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram pages.
- Meetings: Vary depending on the needs at that time.
- Time Commitment: vary between 1 to 4 hours a month.

Generous Life Team (GLT)
The Generous Life Team addresses the fiscal needs of the congregation by promoting a culture of generosity that celebrates the giving spirit in all of us. The GLT is responsible for our annual pledge drive and overseeing and supporting fundraisers.
- Meetings: Once a month, with more frequent meetings prior to the annual April pledge drive. Members can join the 90-minute meetings in person or by Zoom.
- Time Commitment: Members are asked to serve a two-year term but may stay longer.

Membership & Engagement Team (MET)
The Membership & Engagement Team facilitates involvement of members, friends, and visitors in the life of the Congregation, fostering a sense of belonging and meaningful connections with each other and the UUCWNC community.
- Meetings: Once a month, about 1.5 hours
- Time Commitment: In addition to monthly meetings, small groups take on projects that may require additional time.

Open House Team
The Open House Team recruits hosts, publicizes the events, and assists the hosts before, during and after the monthly potluck gatherings.
- Meetings: In person about once a year, by email to coordinate events.
- Time Commitment: Members attend the monthly open houses from 4:00-7:00 pm, dividing the events into early and late shifts. Publicity and other responsibilities generally take about an hour a month.

Pastoral Care Partners (PCP)
PCP serves as an extension of the Minister, providing long term support for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of congregation members. The team serves congregants by listening to their feelings, offering support to those experiencing grief, illness, disability, relationship changes, relocation concerns, caregiving issues, isolation, trauma, and other difficult life situations, and locating community and professional resources. They do not provide professional counseling or medical, legal, or financial services, give advice, judge or make decisions for congregants.
The minister selects and interviews potential committee members to determine their skills, interests, and suitability.

Program Council (PC)
The Program Council (PC) consists of leaders from most of our teams and committees, and is chaired by a member of the Committee for Ministry. The PC works to foster coordination and communication amongst the teams.
- Meetings: Meetings are held every other month via zoom, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Smaller work sessions may be added as needed.
- Time Commitment: Participants represent their committees in the meetings and submit reports of activities prior to each meeting.

Serve On Sunday Teams
The Worship Team
The Worship Team supports the Minister and Lay Service Leader(s), setting up the Sanctuary before services and assisting during services as Worship Associates, Offertory Ushers, and Chalice Lighters. On Sundays when the Minister is away, the Team provides quality Lay-led worship services which seek to affirm and promote our Unitarian Universalist values.
- Meetings: monthly, approximately one hour
- Time Commitment: Varies according to activity.

The UUCW Choir
The UUCW Choir sings one Sunday a month, from September through June. All are welcome to join! Reading music is not required.
- Meetings: Weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays 6:45-8:15 pm, from September to mid-June.
- Time commitment: Consistent attendance is ideal.

The Music Support Team
The Music Support Team’s mission is to make music a foundation for morning worship and an integral part of our spiritual life. The team collaborates with the Minister, Music Director, Worship Team, and musicians to find inspiring and uplifting music that relates to the sermon topic. They also maintain a list of musicians and soloists, and pieces they have ready to play.

Greeters
Greeters provide a welcoming face to everyone who enters the Sanctuary for Sunday service. They also hand out large print hymnals, hearing devices, and printed orders of service to those who need them. There is no special training. Greeters arrive 15 minutes before each Sunday service and stay until the service begins. Greeting members, friends, and visitors is a great way to get to meet people!

Soup Sunday Team

March 2023
The Sunday Soup Team organizes our noontime Soup Sundays — casual lunch gatherings featuring soups & desserts made by members of the congregation. Soup Sundays are held once each month from October through March and serve as both a “FUNDraiser” and “FUN-raiser”.
- Meetings: Working in shifts, set up begins at 9:00 am and clean-up is usually complete by 1:00 pm. Soup and dessert donors are asked to drop off their donation at 9:00 am.
- Time Commitment: Once per month during the fall & winter soup season.

Sunday Hospitality Hosts
The Sunday Hospitality Hosts provide coffee, tea, and snacks after Sunday morning services while members, friends, and visitors engage with one another. This is a great way to meet other members of the Congregation! Volunteers work in pairs or teams, never alone. Our Hospitality Team captains send reminders and written directions, answer questions, and offer “how to” demonstrations if needed.
- Meetings: Approximately two hours the Sunday that you are hosting.
- Time Commitment: One Sunday every three months (just four times a year!)

Vergers
Zoom Vergers, or the Audio Visual Team enhances our worship services for those attending both in person and on Zoom. Roles range from simply advancing the power point slides for the screen presentation to operating the cameras and sound system. Training and support provided. This team also assists with memorials and other special events as needed.
- Meetings: as needed
- Time Commitment: approximately 1-2 hours on the Sunday service

Welcome Table Team Members
Welcome Table Team Members assist new visitors before Sunday services with filling out a brief form & a name tag, offering an invitation to coffee hour after the service, and providing information about UUCW & Unitarian Universalism. They count and record the number attending each service, and stay at the desk after service until visitors leave or attend coffee hour.
- Meetings: No scheduled meetings; training is provided.
- Time Commitment: Members arrive 15 minutes before service & stay after the service until visitors disperse.

Teaching and Learning Teams
Religious Education Committee
The RE committee works closely with the Minister and Director of Religious Education. They assist with RE programs and special events, volunteer as classroom teachers, and find ways to engage our faith community. They also recruit and train volunteers for Sunday youth classes and coordinate childcare for special events.
- Meetings: Weekly or as needed
- Time Commitment: Meetings last 1-2 hours

Quest Presenters

Quest March 2023
Quest presenters facilitate and lead a discussion on a topic of interest to the congregation. They include members of the QUEST facilitator team, the congregation, and the wider community. Presenters submit a short description of their topic and resource information to review the week before. The facilitator team holds monthly meetings to develop the upcoming schedule of presenters and topics.
- Meetings: Sundays 9:15-10:15 am
- Time Commitment: One hour the day of your presentation plus preparation time.

Leadership Teams
Board of Trustees (BOT)

Board 2022-2023
The Board of Trustees creates policy and vision and manages Congregational resources to effectively and efficiently achieve the Mission of UUCW. The Board provides the structure for all teams and committees to operate and interact with each other, the staff, and the congregation.
The President, Vice-President, and Secretary along with the Minister constitute the Executive Board, which meets one week prior to full Board meetings to set the agenda. Each of the nine Board members serves a three-year term; three members rotating off each year. Board members are selected by the Nominating Committee and voted on by the congregation at the annual meeting.
- Meetings: The first meeting of each church year the Board chooses its monthly meeting dates and time.
- Time Commitment: In addition to monthly Board meetings, each Trustee commits to serving as Worship Associate once a year, and to writing an article for the Weekly Digest. The Board leads a Sunday service once a year, conducts the annual Congregational Meeting, and holds two Congregational discussions at which it welcomes questions and feedback.

Committee for Ministry (CFM)
The Committee for Ministry (CFM) works to ensure the Congregation is healthy and thriving. It identifies the needs of the Congregation, assesses how well those needs are being met, identifies areas in which improvement is needed, and assists in developing plans for making positive change.
- Meetings: Once a month for 1-2 hours.
- Time Commitment: The six members serve three-year terms.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is appointed by the Board of Trustees and advises the Board on the financial affairs of the Congregation.
- Meetings: Quarterly, or as needed.
- Time Commitment: Members serve a term of three years.

Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee identifies candidates to serve on the Board of Trustees and the Nominating Committee, elected by the congregation each June. The Nominating Committee functions independently of the Board of Trustees
- Meetings: Monthly starting in January; 2-3 times per month closer to the June Congregational Meeting.
- Time Commitment: 0-2 hours a week in committee meetings plus talking with members about serving; 2 year term.
