Our Congregation’s Mission
The Mission of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Wilmington is to:
- Be a community of individuals who accept and support each other, celebrating our diversity and commonality in a safe and nurturing environment that embraces a wide range of spiritual beliefs and practices.
- Offer diverse formal and informal worship services and forums that cultivate our spiritual and intellectual growth.
- Provide vibrant religious education for youth and adults that encourages free expression of ideas in the search for meaning.
- Engage in social action that promotes justice, freedom, and compassion in the greater community.
- Accept our shared responsibility for the health and well-being of our congregation and the larger UU community.
- Foster friendships and fun by gathering for social activities.

Our Congregation’s Covenant

We intend to:
- Welcome everyone with warmth and kindness.
- Be curious and appreciative of differing perspectives.
- Affirm, support and care for each other.
We communicate with and about each other openly, kindly and respectfully.
We intend to:
- Listen deeply to understand and appreciate the perspectives and opinions of others.
- Engender trust by sharing information honestly and responsibly.
- Be mindful of our tone and words in person, and in written communications.
We work together to nurture and strengthen our beloved community through shared responsibility
We intend to:
- Give with joy, through financial, personal and material contributions.
- Encourage the participation of everyone in the life of our congregation.
- Express appreciation for the contributions of everyone who builds and sustains our church community.
- Honor the policies and practices enacted by the congregation.
We resolve to make a difference in our lifetime by caring for the earth and its people.
We intend to:
- Educate ourselves on social issues.
- Participate in activities that promote justice, freedom and compassion
- Engage in social action that strengthens our connections to others and the earth
We seek constructive resolutions if conflicts arise.
We intend to:
- Assume that everyone in the congregation acts with good intentions.
- Communicate directly with individuals or groups with whom we may have a conflict.
- Be forgiving and loving when mistakes are made.
- Apologize, when warranted, and seek to make amends.
- Call on congregational resources when help is needed.
